Groundwater is one of the most troublesome factors in construction: it floods basements and underground car parks, complicates excavation, corrodes concrete and reinforcement and reduces soil strength. Engineering hydrogeological surveys study aquifers, groundwater level and its fluctuation, water chemistry and permeability, so these risks can be assessed in advance.
In many parts of Baku and the Absheron Peninsula groundwater lies close to the surface and is often highly mineralised, while some districts experience rising water levels and flooding. All work is performed under licence No. EL-845/2026 in accordance with the applicable codes (AzDTN/SNiP) and can be ordered together with engineering geological surveys.
