Staking points from coordinates
Finding any points from a coordinate list on the ground: boreholes and wells, poles, equipment positions, markers, in any coordinate system you work in.
Licensed service · EL-845/2026
Staking points from coordinates means locating individual points on the ground that are not tied to a building, boundary or route, but simply given as a list of coordinates. The client has an Excel sheet, a GPS file or a catalogue taken from a design, and needs those points shown accurately on site.
Typical examples include borehole locations for geotechnical investigation, positions of lighting and telecom poles, billboards or solar panel supports, irrigation equipment on farmland, observation points for research, or features taken from an old map. Sometimes the client simply wants to know where a set of coordinates actually lies on the ground.
The most common difficulty is the coordinate system: the same point has completely different numbers in the national system, WGS-84 geographic coordinates and UTM zone 39N. We first verify the system, convert where required, and then stake the points with SOUTH GNSS RTK (±1–2 cm in plan). In open terrain a large number of points can be staked in one day.
Each point is marked with a numbered peg, pin or paint, and the actual coordinates are listed in the report.
