Topographic plan 1:5000
Topographic plans at 1:5000 for large territories and route studies for roads, pipelines, power lines and canals: 1 cm = 50 m, 1–2 m contours.
Licensed service · EL-845/2026
The 1:5000 scale is the smallest of the large-scale topographic plans: one centimetre equals fifty metres on the ground. At this scale you can view thousands of hectares or a route tens of kilometres long at a glance. Buildings and blocks are generalised, while roads, rivers, canals, gullies and woodland are clearly shown.
Its main application is route selection and option comparison for linear infrastructure: highways and railways, trunk pipelines, high-voltage power lines and irrigation canals. It is also used for district planning, preliminary assessment of quarries and mining areas, and planning of agricultural land and reservoir sites.
Relief is drawn with 1 m or 2 m contours depending on the terrain, or 5 m in mountainous areas. The normative mean error for well-defined features is 0.5 mm at plan scale, about 2.5 m on the ground, which is entirely sufficient for route selection and early design stages.
Surveying such areas purely on foot is inefficient, so we use drone photogrammetry and airborne laser scanning. Ground control measured with GNSS RTK ties the model accurately to the national coordinate system. Once a route is chosen, we follow up with a larger-scale strip survey and longitudinal profiles along it.
