Mobile laser scanning
3D scanning and inventory of roads, streets, railways and infrastructure corridors on the move with a vehicle-mounted laser scanner.

A mobile laser scanning system consists of one or more laser scanners, panoramic cameras, a GNSS receiver and an inertial unit mounted on a car, a rail trolley or a boat. Travelling at normal traffic speed, it captures a 3D point cloud of the road, pavements, facades, poles and the entire surroundings.
The method allows hundreds of kilometres of road network to be surveyed in a short time, without closing traffic or sending staff onto the carriageway. The trajectory is refined with GNSS base stations and ground control points, giving an absolute accuracy of typically ±2–5 cm. In urban canyons, tunnels and between tall buildings where GNSS is weak, additional control points are used.
The point cloud is used to produce road topographic plans, cross-sections, pavement defect maps and an inventory of signs, lighting poles, manholes and other assets. Together with panoramic imagery, the data can be loaded into a GIS or a web viewer. For road, rail and utility projects in Baku and across Azerbaijan, this service saves time and improves safety.
