Mine surveying

Topographic survey of mineral deposits

Topographic survey of deposit areas at the exploration and pre-production stage, coordinates of boreholes and pits, and tie-in of licence boundaries.

Topographic survey of mineral deposits

Deposit exploration, reserve estimation and quarry design all require an accurate topographic base. The shape of the terrain determines stripping volumes, pit limits and the location of roads and waste dumps, while the coordinates of boreholes and trial pits directly affect the correctness of geological sections and the block model of the deposit.

Depending on the area and relief, the survey is carried out at 1:500–1:2000 scale with 0.5–1 m contour intervals. On large or hard-to-access sites, drone photogrammetry is combined with ground control points measured by GNSS RTK, giving an orthophoto and a dense digital terrain model in a short time. Exploration boreholes, pits, trenches and existing workings are coordinated with GNSS, and the corner points of the licence area are located or restored on the ground.

Results are delivered in the national coordinate system or the system required by the client (for example WGS-84 or UTM zone 39N) and in formats suitable for geological software. This material later serves as the initial state for mine surveys of the quarry and makes it possible to calculate the first production volumes.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What scale should be chosen for a deposit?

Exploration and reserve estimation usually use 1:1000–1:2000, while quarry design and small sites use 1:500. The scale is agreed with the geologists and designer.

Is it possible to survey remote and mountainous areas?

Yes. In such areas we mainly use drone photogrammetry and GNSS RTK, which significantly reduces field time.

What does the price depend on?

On the area, terrain complexity, scale and the number of boreholes to be coordinated. Call us for details.
