Drone aerial survey

Aerial photo and video monitoring of construction

Periodic drone surveys of construction sites: orthophotos, photo and video reports, earthwork volumes, comparison with the design and visual progress control.

Aerial photo and video monitoring of construction

On large construction sites it is hard to judge real progress from the ground: the site is extensive, many contractors work at once, and earthworks change the terrain every day. Periodic drone monitoring gives the client, technical supervision and investors an objective, measurable picture of the site on specific dates and helps detect schedule delays and deviations from the design early.

Monitoring is carried out at an agreed frequency, weekly, fortnightly or monthly, using the same flight route and the same control points. Each visit produces a georeferenced orthophoto and terrain model, and panoramic photos and short videos are taken from fixed viewpoints. By comparing successive surveys, cut and fill volumes and changes in material stockpiles are calculated, and the orthophoto is overlaid on design drawings to check the position of buildings, roads and utilities.

Results are delivered for each period as a short report, orthophoto and video; on request, materials for all dates are kept in a single online folder. This archive later serves as useful evidence in resolving disputes, preparing as-built documentation and handing over the project.

Frequently asked questions

How often should monitoring be carried out?

Weekly or fortnightly flights suit active earthwork stages, while monthly monitoring is usually enough during structural and finishing works.

How soon is the report ready?

Photos and video are usually delivered within 1–2 days after the flight, and orthophotos and volume reports within a few working days depending on site size.
