Scanning of moulds, dies and castings
3D scanning of moulds, dies and castings: wear measurement, digital archiving, and CAD models for repair or new tooling.

Moulds, dies and press tools are the core tooling of production, and their geometry directly determines the quality of the finished product. Over time working surfaces wear, edges erode and the mould cavity changes shape. In castings, shrinkage, warping and uneven material distribution cause deviations from the design. 3D scanning measures these changes across the entire surface.
Topoqraf AZ scans moulds and parts with high-accuracy handheld scanners. Deep cavities, thin ribs and shiny surfaces need special preparation: matting spray and targets are used where necessary, and the object is scanned from several positions. The scan data are compared with the CAD model or an earlier scan, and wear and deviations are shown on a colour map.
Depending on the results, areas that need material added or removed during repair are identified, a CAD model is recovered for an old mould without drawings, or a model is supplied for making new tooling. For castings, the scan also shows whether the machining allowance is sufficient.
